A 17-year-old girl was abducted, sexually assaulted, and robbed of her gold chain near Meenkara Dam in a horrifying incident that occurred on Thursday noon. The accused, identified as Saravana Kumar, a native of Pollachi, has been arrested for sexual abuse, threats, and robbery. The incident took place at Karadikunnu, a downhill area near the dam.
The victim had visited Meenkara Dam with a male friend when Saravana Kumar, who was fishing at the site, approached them, posing as a security officer. He claimed to be conducting a safety check and confiscated their mobile phones. He then instructed both of them to leave the area. While the male friend was allowed to depart on his bike, the girl boarded a bus to return home. However, Saravana Kumar followed the bus, boarded it midway, and deceitfully informed the girl that her friend was waiting nearby, offering to help her reunite with him.
Under false pretenses, he took her to a secluded downhill area at Karadikunnu, where he sexually assaulted her and stole her gold chain. After the assault, he abandoned her near a canal stop at Empathanur. The girl managed to contact her male friend, who rushed to the location, rescued her, and took her to a hospital for medical attention.
The following day, the victim and her friend filed a formal complaint at the Meenakshipuram police station. Based on their report, the Kollengode police arrested Saravana Kumar. According to police records, the accused has a criminal history, with two prior robbery cases still pending in court. He had been employed as a supervisor at Muthalamada Narippara Farm since last year.
The case has sparked outrage, and authorities are ensuring a thorough investigation to deliver justice for the victim.
