A woman civil police officer, Soumya Pushpakaran, had died after she was set on fire allegedly by her colleague Ajas, who poured petrol on her at Alappuzha district in Kerala. The policewoman was on her way back home from work.

Kerala Police has arrested Ajas, a cop after he allegedly stabbed his female colleague before setting on her fire and left her for die. The deceased has been identified as 34-year-old Soumya Pushpakaran, a mother of three minor children. Her husband has employed in the middle-east.

Soumya died on the spot. The accused criminal, who is also a civil police officer, according to the sources, suffered 40 percent burn injuries and he was taken into custody. He has been hospitalized and is in the ICU.

The victim, Soumya was returning home on a scooter when the accused, Ajas, chased her down in a car and banged on her vehicle. Also, he attacked her and set her ablaze as she tried to escape, eyewitnesses said.

The victim was a mother of three children. The reason for the attack is yet to be ascertained, police said. The criminal offense had taken place at Vallikunam near Mavelikara.
