Over 5,000 diyas were lit to decorate the Himalayan shrine ahead of the PM’s visit at Kedarnath.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi Wednesday arrived in Kedarnath on the occasion of Diwali where he offered prayers at the Himalayan shrine and reviewed the Kedarpuri reconstruction projects. Kedarnath witnessed the biggest Diwali celebrations ever with over 5,000 diyas lit to decorate the Himalayan shrine on Tuesday night.
Several new features await the Prime Minister including a meditation cave above Kedarnath. At a secluded spot 400 meters above the shrine, the cave will be shown to the Prime Minister from a distance as he is not scheduled to go there.
Other new features for Modi to see at the shrine this time will be a much wider Mukhya Aksha, the passage from the point of confluence of Mandakini and Saraswati to the facade of the temple and the retaining walls constructed on the banks of the two rivers, the official said.
Earlier in the day, Modi celebrated Diwali with Army and ITBP personnel at Harsil near the India-China border in Uttarakhand. Greeting the jawans on the occasion, he said their devotion to duty in the remote icy heights is enabling the strength of the nation and securing the future and the dreams of 125 crore Indians. This is Modi’s 10th visit to the state since he became Prime Minister in 2014.
