The Kerala State Electricity Board has signed an MoU with the National Thermal Power Corporation, Kayamkulam for increasing solar energy generation within the state. KSEB had an installed capacity of 109.5 MW, with a total annual internal generation of 441.35 MU.
With the MoU, additionally includes an agreement to line up a fifteen MW solar energy unit at the NTPC complex in Kayamkulam, an official release said.
Besides this, the possibility of setting up solar plants at reservoirs, open space and top of buildings additionally would be explored.
The power generated would incline to KSEB at a rate fixed by the State Electricity Regulatory Commission.
Kerala state is anticipated to create sensible strides in solar energy generation with the MoU becoming operational, the release said.
NTPC Director (Commercial) A K Gupta and KSEB CMD N S Pillai signed the MoU within the presence of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and state power minister M M Mani.
NTPC Chairman and MD Gurdeep Singh and state Chief Secretary Paul Marcus Antonius were among those present.
Kerala State Electricity Board Ltd (KSEB Ltd) is a public sector division under the Government of Kerala. It generates and distributes electricity in the state. Established in 1957, the agency comes under the authority of the Department of Power.
KSEB has 23 hydro-electric projects, two diesel power plants, and one wind farm. The total installed power capacity is 2898.51 MW.
