When we talk about the Kashmir issue, let’s not forget that in this noise of disturbed 4-5 Districts of Kashmir Valley is buried the firm voice of silent but peaceful and nationalist Jammu and Ladakh that has never expressed any “reservation” about the State of Jammu and Kashmir joining the Union of India after the partition in 1947.
I wonder why our so-called political experts on Kashmir forget to mention Jammu and Ladakh when they talk about Kashmir. Probably because talking about Jammu and Ladakh in the same breath when they speak about Kashmir proves counterproductive in building the “narrative” that these so-called experts want to make about the so-called Kashmir problem.
Let us go to the deep root of the Kashmir problem. Jammu and Kashmir were one of the numerous princely states that existed in the pre-independence era. When the freedom struggle of India was getting momentum, this Muslim majority state was being ruled by a progressive Dogra Hindu King Maharaja Hari Singh in whose leadership, the State of Jammu and Kashmir had gone through several progressive reforms including in the Education sector and setting up of Jammu and Kashmir Bank in 1938.
Britishers and their divide and rule policy could not desist from fomenting trouble in the State of Jammu and Kashmir because they had seen fertile ground for the success of their nefarious designs in the truly secular State of Jammu and Kashmir where a Hindu King was peacefully and successfully providing leadership where not a single instance of forced Religious conversion could be found where Muslim would have been forced to convert to Hinduism.
So as per plan, Britishers started instigating Muslim fundamentalists and supported them in their movement against the Hindu King. The unfortunate events of 1925 marked the occasion when the seeds of Fundamentalism were sown in the soil of the peaceful and progressive State of Jammu and Kashmir.
Here lies the origin of Kashmir’s problem: it is religious, and there is nothing Political in it, and what is the basis?
The basis is that a Hindu king has no right to rule in the Muslim majority state. Only Muslims should rule over Muslims against the Secular State’s necessary credentials like Jammu and Kashmir, where the Hindu Dogra rulers ruled smoothly for over a century.
At India-Pak partition in 1947, Maharaja Hari Singh decided to join secular India as Jammu and Kashmir being a Secular state for over a century was more compatible with India than Pakistan did not go well with the latter.
Soon after its formation, Pakistan decided to attack Kashmir that made Maharaja Hari Singh signed the instrument of accession with India, paving the way for a full and final merger of the State of Jammu and Kashmir into the Union of India. But this also doesn’t go well with the fundamentalist elements in the State of Jammu and K that had been propped up by the Britishers for more than two decades now.
Handling of Jammu and Kashmir by the then PM Jawahar Lal Nehru was the First instance of Muslim appeasement when by his friendship with Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah, first he made the historic blunder of taking the Kashmir issue to the United Nations and after that fiddled with the Constitution of India by forcing article 370 in the name of temporary provision of Constitution thereby ensuring special status to the State of Jammu and Kashmir just because it was a Muslim majority state with its own Constitution and prime minister.
It seems quite astounding when India’s Constitution promises no discrimination based on Religion by Article 370 openly discriminated based on Religion by providing special status to Jammu and Kashmir because of its Muslim majority provenance.
How bizarre it seems? The State of Jammu and Kashmir had a separate constitution and separate Prime Minister within secular Country India because Muslims were in the majority in this State.
Introducing Article 370 in India’s Constitution was an acceptance of the Two-Nation Theory of Mohammad Ali Jinnah that secular India had rejected in 1947.
This temporary provision of Constitution called Article 370 was against India’s basic idea where no discrimination was expected based on Religion.
Again, the provision of” Special” Status to the State of Jammu and Kashmir also meant that the Muslims living in the State of Jammu and Kashmir was “Special” to the Muslims living in others states of India.
In short, Article 370 ensured a mindset amongst the Muslims of Jammu and Kashmir that they were required to be given special privileges to remain part of India, something that was contrary to the instrument of accession that Maharaja Hari Singh had signed in 1947 with the Union of India that pave the way for a full and final merger with the Republic of India without any condition or precondition.
Sometimes I wonder what the compulsion in the mind of Jawahar Lal Nehru that to fulfill the political ambitions of his friend Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah was; he decided to play with the basic framework of the Indian Constitution by forcing the introduction of provisions like Article 370 that was bluntly refused by Baba Saheb Ambedkar. Nehru got it introduced through Mr.Gopalswami Ayyangar.
After failing to take control over Kashmir in 1947, Muslim Pakistan once again engaged in misadventure to snatch Kashmir from India in the 1965 Indo-Pak War but failed miserably also and lost the war badly.
After the 1971 War in which Pakistan got divided into two parts, Pakistan realized that it could not snatch Kashmir from India through conventional war. It decided to take revenge from India to create Bangladesh through its strategy of “BLEEDING INDIA” through a thousand cuts.
They have thus started the era of insurgency during the tenure of General Zia Ul Haq. They targeted Sikh fundamentalists of the Indian State of Punjab, where they aided and abetted cross border terrorism. Kashmir was pushed to the back seat by Pakistan during this period.
Meanwhile, in the State of Jammu and Kashmir, to fulfill his political ambitions, Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah did accord with Mrs.Indira Gandhi, the then PM of India. He assumed the office of Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, and he was succeeded by his son Dr.Farooq Abdullah after his demise.
Dr. Farooq Abdullah also did accord with then PM Mr. Rajiv Gandhi for remaining in power.
It is quite surprising that Kashmir remained peaceful till 1989 without any incidence of violence, and there was no sign of the so-called “political problem” of Kashmir.
Why? Because Pakistan was preoccupied with its fomenting terrorism in the Indian State of Punjab and it’s only after getting defeated in Punjab insurgency, Pakistan shifted its focus to Kashmir again in 1989 formerly started an Armed uprising sponsored by it.
In this armed insurgency, Kashmiri Hindus of Kashmir valley, popularly known as Kashmiri Pandits, was selectively killed and targeted. If Kashmir was a political problem, then why were only Hindus targeted and killed?
Mosques were used to make announcements and terrorize Kashmiri Pandits. What role mosques had if it was a Political problem? Why were notifications of enforcing Islamic laws through loudspeakers of mosques made if Kashmir was a political problem?
As a consequence of all this fear psychosis of creating an Islamic state in Kashmir Valley, there was a mass exodus of Kashmiri Pandits in lakhs from Kashmir Valley. Why did only Hindus leave their homes if Kashmir was in a political issue?
This insurgency aided and abetted by Pakistan in Islam’s name has been continuing for the last three decades now. Pakistan again indulged in misadventure against India in 1999 during Kargil War but had to eat humble pie once again as India defeated it comprehensively.
After the Kandahar hijacking incident, Pakistan succeeded in ensuring the release of dreaded Pakistani terrorist Maulana Masood Azhar, the founder of dreaded terrorist outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad emboldened Pakistan further in its nefarious designs.
Initially, only India was at the receiving end of Islamic terrorism but post 9/11 Attacks in WTC in the USA. For the first time, Islamic Terrorism was recognized by the entire world, and a need was felt to fight this menace of Islamic Terrorism globally.
Undeterred by all these happenings, Pakistan kept on aiding and abetting Islamic terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir and other parts of India. Terrorist Attack on Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly and Attack on Indian Parliament in 2001 were the major terrorist attacks carried out by Pakistan backed terrorists.
Despite its promise of not letting use its soil for Terror activities during the Agra Summit, Pakistan kept on supporting terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir and other parts of India. 26/11 Mumbai attack was one more gruesome attack on India by Pakistani terrorists that left 166 persons dead and hundreds of others injured.
Pakistani terrorist named Ajmal Kasab was captured alive and later on executed after a trial in India. Still, Pakistan kept on abetting insurgency in J&K and India’s whole shamelessly despite being exposed globally.
Gradually, thanks to India’s relentless efforts, Pakistan is now known as the epicenter of terrorism all over the world. However, this terror nation continues with its terrorist attacks, including the Pathankot Airbase attack, the Dinanagar attack, the Nagrota attack, the Uri attack, and now the Pulwama attack.
Here We can’t see anything political in this so-called Kashmir issue. It’s a problem that is a consequence of Islamic Fundamentalism aided and abetted by a Terror State called Pakistan.
