CPI state secretary Kanam Rajendran has been facing a tough time within the party. The majority of the party leaders and members are against his approach towards the police lathi-charge on party leaders, including an MLA.

A group within the party reveals that Pinaray Vijayan has been blackmailing Kanam Rajendran with evidence of his son’s allegation of a civil supply deal.

The rebel group claims that to save his son from the allegation, Kanam had killed the CPI’s party ideology and it is not acceptable in any circumstances, and their demand is not less than his resignation.

During a CPI-organized march, Kerala police assaulted party MLA Eldo Abraham and the CPI Ernakulam district secretary. MLA Eldo and other senior party leaders had been injured in the police attack and, considering the situation, CPI party leaders had expected a supporting statement from the party secretary, Kanam Rajendran, but his approach to the police attack was not comprehensible to the other party leaders and members.

According to a CPI leader, “Now, CPI has two sides. One side is Kanam Rajendran and the other side is all the other CPI leaders and party members”.

When the media approached Kanam Rajendran for his reaction to the police attack on the party leaders, he simply repeated and supported Pinarayi Vijayan’s statement, and his unusual behavior polarized the party.

Allegation against Kanam’s son

His statement came after social media posts claimed Kanam had softened his response to the police attack on CPI MLAs and leaders in Ernakulam because of his son’s alleged involvement in food supply in SupplyCo.
