Every railway ticket booked is allocated a unique 10-digit PNR Number, which can be used to track the PNR status of the booking. This PNR number is stored with the Centre of Railway Information System along with the passenger’s personal information like age and gender. The PNR number also comes in handy if you lose your railway ticket before your journey date. The passenger can get a duplicate railway ticket issued using the PNR number.

# Process for getting the duplicate ticket issued

  • In the case of a Passenger Reservation System ticket

Suppose the lost railway ticket is a Passenger Reservation System counter ticket (PRS). In that case, you can visit any computerized reservation counter and contact the Chief Reservation supervisor to inform him about the lost key. You will need proof of ID and your PNR number to get a duplicate ticket issued with the same PNR number. The exact ticket will be issued only if the original key has RAC or confirmed train PNR status.

  • In case of an e-ticket

If the lost ticket is an e-ticket booked through the IRCTC website, you can retake a printout of your ticket. You need to log in to the website, go to the reserved history page and get a copy of the key by entering the PNR number.
