According to authorities; Debbie Abrahams had a valid visa until October 2020 but it was canceled on the nation’s security base and she was informed about it ‘well in advance’. According to the source, she was denied entry due to her Kashmir views and the statement about the article 370.
A British MP critical of the government’s decisions on Kashmir under Article 370 was stopped at the Delhi airport on Monday and deported to Dubai. Debbie Abrahams was not allowed entry into India and was told upon her arrival at the Delhi airport that her e-visa had been rejected.
“Mission has confirmed from the Indian immigration authorities that Ms. Debbie Abrahams did not hold a valid visa,” the Indian High Commission said in a statement on Twitter.
Abrahams chairs a UK parliamentary group focused on Kashmir and has been a critic of the Narendra Modi government’s move to scrap Article 370.
“The airlines did not check her visa before she boarded and that is a violation too. Also, the details that her visa has been canceled should have been with the airlines as it is also updated in their system, but they were not careful enough to check,” said the official.
“Further, there is no provision for visa on arrival for UK nationals. She was accordingly requested to return,” the statement noted.
