Kerala is in mourning after the brutal murder of a five-year-old girl, who was allegedly sexually assaulted and killed in Aluva by a suspect called Asfak Alam from Bihar. The tragedy has sent shockwaves throughout the state, with authorities responding swiftly to investigate and bring justice to the victim’s family.
The girl had gone missing from her rented home in Aluva, Ernakulam district on Friday, and her body was found the following day. The suspect, Asfak Alam, is a labourer who also lived on the premises of the house where the victim’s family was staying. Upon being questioned by police officers, the suspect confessed to the crime after being unable to deceive them. Consequently, he was arrested and placed in custody immediately afterwards.
The tragic incident has prompted the government of Kerala to take stern action against sexual violence towards children, with Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan issuing a statement calling for an immediate investigation and justice for the victim’s family. Additionally, he warned that those found guilty of violating the state’s zero-tolerance policy towards such atrocious acts will be dealt with the full extent of the law.
The Kerala Police have apprehended Asfak Alam, a resident of Bihar, in connection to the tragic death of a five-year-old girl whose body was discovered in an Ernakulam district garbage pile. Further examinations uncovered that the poor youth had experienced sexual maltreatment and had been choked to death. This tragic incident highlights the need for greater awareness and measures to ensure safety of vulnerable children in our society.
After an extensive search that began on Friday night, when the girl first went missing, police discovered her body early Saturday morning. Asfak Alam, a labourer, was identified as the accused and admitted to committing the crime, according to police reports. In addition to apprehending the suspect in this case, police are now investigating any possible motives behind the incident.
The Superintendent of Police for Ernakulam Rural, Vivek Kumar, stated that the female victim had been murdered following a sexual assault. He further added that an investigation is underway to determine whether anybody else was involved in the crime and if so, they would soon be apprehended. Additionally, the police are liaising with Bihar Police to see if the arrested suspect, Alam, has any past convictions.
Distraught parents of a young girl reported her missing last Friday afternoon. Upon further investigation, it was found that the accused also lived in the same house rented by the family of the missing girl.
“Her absence was noticed by her parents when they came back from work. A complaint related to her missing was filed at our police station at 7 p.m., and the FIR was subsequently registered about an hour later,” according to SP Kumar.
“Inspecting the CCTV recordings revealed an individual accompanying the missing girl and subsequently getting on a bus. Within a matter of hours, police apprehended Alam, though the girl remained unlocated. Alam attempted to divert the police, claiming he transferred the girl to an unknown person. Moreover, we couldn’t extract more information as he was under the influence. By Saturday, he admitted to his involvement in the incident,” stated Kumar.
Market employees reportedly informed law enforcement about a man and a young girl spotted nearby. One such employee, a porter, disclosed to the media that the man, known as Alam, purported that the girl was his offspring, directing her towards an unpopulated area behind the market. The porter also noted that subsequently, a few more individuals were observed heading in the same direction.
The incident in question indeed caused a deep sense of embarrassment for the state, generating significant public outcry. Social media platforms burgeoned with opinions, many users expressing their displeasure by stating they felt “bowed down.” This phrase, widely circulated, encapsulated the collective disappointment and shame felt by the populace, igniting debates and discussions on the state’s accountability and responsibility in the matter.
