Muslim League party worker was reportedly killed yesterday in Kannur, Kerala, by Left political rivals after the conclusion of voting in the state assembly elections. Though voting has been confirmed to be relatively calm, the state reported at least three significant acts of brutality later in the night. Kerala reported a voter turnout of over 74%, down from 77% in the 2016 poll.
Mansoor, 21, an IUML party worker, was hacked to death last night in Kuthuparamba, Kannur, by a pro-CPM mob. Around 8 p.m. on Tuesday, a fight erupted in the Paral region over accusations of fake voting, PTI said. Muhasin, Mansoor’s sibling, has been hospitalized with a life-threatening injury. One alleged CPM worker has been arrested in connection with the murder in Kannur.
The IUML, which has long been a Congress party ally, has decided to call for a hartal in Kuthambawara. The PTI has said that the assailants used bombs and knives to operate the attack.
CPM activists allegedly attacked a family of BJP supporters last night in Kattaikonam, Kazhakuttam, the state’s southernmost district, local sources said. The state police have taken into custody a few LDF activists after had received a complaint.
