South Indian actor Vijay has taken in custody by the IT department in connection with alleged tax evasion by AGS Cinemas.
The highlight of the search is the seizure of unaccounted cash of about Rs.77 core from hideouts and secret places located at Chennai and Madurai, purportedly belonging to him. A large number of property documents, promissory noes, post-dated cheques are taken as collateral security, it was recovered during the search and have been seized. As per evidence detected during the search, it is estimated that the concealment, in this case, is likely to exceed Rs. 300 core.
According to local media reports, he will be questioned on the financial allegations related to Bigil cinema funding source and about some recent movie productions done by his production house.
A special IT team is inquiring about the financial allegations of AGS Cinemas, a movie production house owns by Tamil actor Vijay.
The IT department started checking all documents related to the property and land deals are done by AGS Cinemas in the past few years. IT inquiry leads to Anbu Cheliyan, a Madurai based film producer as well.
Vijay is being questioned by IT officers in connection with an alleged tax evasion case linked to a production house and some financial transactions had happened through the firm business account. The officers are also searching the properties of AGS Cinemas and film financier Anbu Cheliyan in Madurai.
Vijay has been against the GST implementation and he showcased it in his movie Mersal, released in October 2017.
According to reports, searches are being carried out simultaneously in 20 locations belonging to AGS Group, which includes AGS Entertainment and AGS Cinemas. IT sleuths conducted searches at various properties belonging to film financier AnbuCheziyan. The search operations are expected to carry on.
